Lincoln LS or Explorer for a 16 yr old?

Question

Im 16, just started a job at Krogers, im selling my old taurus, for 1500$, so ill have a little in the bank, right now I drive a 92 explorer, im really big into car audio/video, and I want to sell my explorer, and either get a Lincoln LS (04-07) or an explorer (98-02) I love SUVs because they seem to "suit" me more, but then I want power and handling too, which a big SUV cant really have, well at least the way I want. LS's come with wuite a bit of stock power, 260+ HP, as an explorer comes with about 160 HP.

Whatever I got, would be used, and soon have my killer system and all that in there. I dont usually drive with friends and all that, just my girlfriend so SUV space doesnt matter to me.

What would you guys get?

I love explorers too, and I would go for an explorer. My dad has a 2003 eddie bauer with 150k miles and no troubles so far. If you go for a used explorer from 2006-now the V8 got a major power boost (from 263 horsepower to 292). Explorers also have "Advance-trac with RSC (roll stability control) so you can have some peace of mind with that. Either way it's a Ford so i'll be happy, but if you love explorers like I do, I would get one any day over a LS.

I would go with the LS. The LS has been an all around great car for reliability and gets better gas mileage. I would get the most recent LS like a 2006-2007 since they are newer and would probably have less bugs than the previous LS's.

The Explorers do have problems but they are fixable. Lincoln LS's are all around here for really cheap. Even the newest ones have major electrical problems.

LS's are seriously expensive to maintain and are traps waiting to happen.



There is a reason Ford went away from the DEW98 platform that brought us the T-bird and LS...

These two vehicles offer different options but from personal experience I would go with the Lincoln. I've had 2 explorers and I loved them I had one lx and one eddie bauer. I love the performance I love the handling I loved everything about them. But the lincoln does it just a little better. They have better grain leather in the vehicle. More horsepower and better luxury options. I definatley think if you're going to get a suv go with the lincoln.

SUV's are great, but they are top heavy and expensive to fuel for a 16 year old. More likely or not, your teen will speed or drive recklessly at some point during their first few years, and for an explorer to be manuevered dangerously is very dangerous in its self. Because the Explorer is top heavy, it is much more likely to roll over. Besides, the Lincoln is much much much more tank-like and very safe! Go Lincoln baby-cakes :D

i would go with the ls. Explorers have alot of problems with motors,suspensions,and transmissions. I would go with the lincoln as they dont seem to have the problems that exploders do. good luck
